Strengthening the dairy value chain in Bangladesh

Company : DeLaval
Groups : PRAN Dairy Ltd, Bangladesh; Tetra Pak Bangladesh; Tetra Laval Food for Development Office.
The purpose of the project is to improve the quality and quantity milk production and smallholder access to markets.
It is based on the dairy hub concept, developed by the Tetra Laval Food for Development Office.

Dairy hubs link together smallholder farmers from several villages, enabling them to acccess the benefits of being part of a larger herd. At each hub, Village Milk Collection points are organised by milk processing companies for dairy farmers to supply their milk. Mechanised milking machines are provided for improved animal productivity and field service staff provide training and support through frequent on-farm visits. In addition, a one-stop-shop with farm supplies for animal welfare and feed is set up for the dairy farmers.

The project "Strengthening the dairy value chain in Bangladesh" is due to run 2010-2020, with a goal of 60 operational dairy hubs by 2020 .
