“Beef sustainability is not a new phenomenon…”

SAI Platform welcomes new Chair, European Roundtable for Beef Sustainability, Sarah Haire.

“Beef sustainability is not a new phenomenon but increasingly important in the hearts and minds of both producers and consumers. The topic is very broad and diverse, so the strength of collaboration within the ERBS is essential to ensure we have robust, transparent, sustainable beef supply chains, working to a common goal for the future” - Sarah Haire, Chair, European Roundtable for Beef Sustainability

Sarah is the Group Agriculture Strategy Manager which encompasses a varied workstream across Dawn Meats and Dunbia business, ranging from customer liaison on agricultural matters, all aspects of animal welfare from farm to factory, as well as agri-based projects looking at sustainable suckler beef production in the UK and Ireland. Sarah has worked in the agri-food industry for nearly 20 years over a wide cross section of the industry including production agriculture, NGO’s, retailing, animal welfare and meat production. Sarah has a BSc (Hons) in Agriculture with Agricultural Marketing, an MSc in Food Marketing and Quality from Harper Adams University and received a Nuffield Farming Trust Scholarship in 2007. Sarah, along with her husband William, and 3-year-old daughter, are also beef farmers, with a small herd of Pedigree Hereford and cross bred Hereford cows, running alongside a small flock of Wiltshire horn sheep.

ERBS public consultation on outcome targets

In 2018, the European Roundtable for Beef Sustainability (ERBS) drafted measurable outcome-based targets at the European level across four priority action areas. With the objective of gathering insights and input on these outcome targets, the ERBS opened a public consultation. The consultation period lasted 60 days ending on December 4, 2018. Overall, responses were positive, validating that the ERBS is on the right track and that the outcome targets are meeting the expectations and ambitions of key stakeholders.

The ERBS would like to thank all who contributed to this development to ensure it is consistent, clear, relevant and robust. The ERBS response and the final version of the outcome targets will be published on SAI Platform’s website and share with all stakeholders who provided feedback by the end of March 2019.
