International Conference on “Standards for a Sustainable Agriculture and the Mitigation of Climate Change”

From 17 November 2010 to 18 November 2010 | Bern, Switzerland

Conference organised by the Trade Standard Practitioners Network (TSPN) in collaboration with the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO):

The main issues that will be addressed in the conference are:

  • the contextualisation of voluntary product carbon/GHG footprint standards
    (political, economic, environmental and sustainable development issues);
  • effectiveness, efficiency and distributional effects of these standards;
  • the trends and relations between existing sustainability standards and emerging carbon-based standards and labelling schemes;
  • developing country concerns and technical and institutional constraints in using prod­uct carbon/GHG footprint standards
    as sustainable development instrument;
  • the identification of key outstanding issues and the role of TSPN and its members in addressing them.

Thursday afternoon (18 th Nov.) will be dedicated to a TSPN Member Meeting, which is open to all interested parties.

A day ahead of the conference, on Tuesday 16th of November, IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, in collaboration with the TSPN Secretariat, will organize the inaugural meeting of a 3rd TSPN Working Group: "Private Sector Incentives and Constraints to Mainstreaming Private Voluntary Standards in Developing Countries".
