Sustainable Agriculture Initiative Platform
The global food value chain initiative for sustainable agriculture


SAI Platform is registered as an association under Article 60 of the Swiss Civil Code. Its management and conduct are governed by specific Statutes and by-laws. In addition, all activities performed by the Platform comply with strict Anti-trust guidelines.

Active Members

SAI Platform Active Members are food and drink industry companies. The definition of food and drink industry company is taken in a broad sense, including companies manufacturing and marketing food & beverages, food service companies and trading companies. Members may have different shareholder status, including the ones of private company or cooperative. SAI Platform members appoint the Platform's Executive Committee and Advisory Council.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee consists of food and drink industry representatives elected by the General Assembly for two years. It works together with the Platform Secretariat to discuss activities as well as to safeguard the quality and financial viability of the Platform.

Advisory Council

The Advisory Council, consisting of representatives from NGOs, farmers organizations, research institutes and other stakeholders groups, advises on SAI Platform strategic direction, participates in the evaluation of the work of the Platform and its progress, and suggests potential new members.

SAI Platform's Advisory Council was formed in 2004 to provide critical advice on the progress of the initiative aimed at ensuring the successful development of sustainable agriculture worldwide.

The Advisory Council is composed of 4 to 8 experts in the field of sustainability, selected for their expertise and specific interest in issues linked to the economic, social and environmental pillars of sustainable agriculture.


SAI Platform Secretariat runs the Platform's operational business activities. In close cooperation with the Executive Committee, the Secretariat carries out activities aimed at delivering SAI Platform's mission. 

Working Groups

The Working Groups are formed by SAI Platform members as well as other relevant stakeholders to focus on specific commodities or issues. Active Members decide on the Working Groups' work programmes.
